Ready to Protect What’s Yours?
Not sure what you need? That’s okay. It’s why you have a Sky-Agent®.
AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
Your Landlord’s Insurance Is Not Your Renters Insurance.
Your landlord generally insures their property and their financial interest in the building.
That doesn’t mean your furniture, clothing, electronics and other belongings are automatically protected by the landlord’s policy.
It also doesn’t mean the landlord’s insurance provides personal liability protection for you or pays your additional living expenses following a covered loss.
Your landlord protects the property they own. Renters insurance helps you protect what belongs to you.
HOW MUCH COVERAGE?
Your Belongings May Be Worth More Than You Think.
It’s easy to underestimate how much you own. Think about what it would cost to replace your:
- Furniture
- Kitchenware & Small Appliances
- Clothing & Shoes
- Bedding & Linens
- TVs & Electronics
- Sporting Equipment
- Computers & Tablets
- Other Everyday Belongings
One item at a time may not seem like much. Replacing an entire household after a serious covered loss can be a very different story.
Your Sky-Agent® can help you consider an appropriate personal-property limit and explain the coverage options available to you.
Protect more than the expensive things. Protect the everyday things that make your home yours.
An Important Coverage Difference
Replacement Cost vs. Actual Cash Value
The amount of personal-property coverage you select matters. How your belongings are valued after a covered loss matters too.
Replacement Cost
Replacement Cost generally looks at what it would cost to replace covered belongings with new items of similar kind and quality, subject to the policy’s terms and limits.
Actual Cash Value
Actual Cash Value generally takes age and depreciation into account.
Consider a television, laptop or piece of furniture you’ve owned for several years. What you originally paid for it, what it’s worth today and what it would cost to replace it with a comparable new item can be three very different numbers.
That’s why two renters policies with similar limits and premiums may not necessarily provide the same value after a loss.
Don’t Compare Renters Insurance on Price Alone. Know What You’re Buying.
PRICE & VALUE
How Much Does Renters Insurance Cost?
There isn’t one standard price for renters insurance.
Insurance companies can consider several factors when determining your rate, including:
- Where you live
- Your liability coverage limit
- Your deductible
- Claims history
- The type of residence you rent
- Available discounts
- Other insurance you may have with the same company
Different insurance companies can price the same renter differently.
That’s why shopping matters—even for Renters Insurance.
Your Sky-Agent® can compare available options and help you understand what you’re getting for the premium you’re paying.

Shop the Total Cost
Renters Insurance May Help You Save on Auto Insurance, Too.
Many insurance companies offer a multi-policy discount when eligible Auto and Renters Insurance are written together.
So instead of asking only, “How much does Renters Insurance cost?” there may be a better question:
What happens to my total insurance cost when we shop Auto and Renters together?
The answer varies by customer and insurance company, but it’s worth finding out. Your Sky-Agent® can compare available combinations and look at the total cost of your insurance, not simply the price of one policy.
Don’t Just Bundle. Shop the Bundle.™
Shop the Whole Picture
One Household. More Than One Thing to Protect.
Whether you rent a House, Condo, Apartment or Mobile Home, the place you live is probably only one part of your insurance picture.
Your Sky-Agent® can look beyond the Renters policy and help you explore available options across your household. Some insurance companies offer valuable multi-policy discounts when eligible products are placed together.
But the company offering the biggest bundle discount isn’t automatically the company offering the best overall combination of coverage and price.
That’s why we shop the whole picture.

THE SKY-AGENT® DIFFERENCE

Renters insurance may be relatively straightforward, but the choices you make still matter.
How much personal property coverage do you need? How much liability protection makes sense? Replacement Cost or Actual Cash Value? Should you combine Renters with Auto?
A Sky-Agent® can help you understand the options without making insurance complicated.
We shop. We explain. You choose.
Nobody Shops Alone.™

No. Renters insurance isn’t limited to apartment renters. Coverage may be available when you rent a House, Condo, Apartment, Mobile Home or other eligible residence. Your Sky-Agent® can help you shop for coverage based on the type of home you’re renting.
Your landlord generally insures the building and the landlord’s financial interest in the property. That doesn’t mean the landlord’s policy protects your belongings, your personal liability or your additional living expenses following a covered loss. Renters insurance is designed to help protect you.
Renters insurance generally isn’t required by law, but a landlord or property manager may require tenants to maintain coverage as part of the lease agreement. Even when it isn’t required, renters insurance can provide important protection for your belongings and personal liability.
That depends on what you own and the amount of protection you want. One useful starting point is estimating what it would cost to replace your furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances and other belongings after a major loss. Your Sky-Agent® can help explain available personal-property and liability limits so you can make an informed decision.
Renters insurance can help protect belongings stolen in a covered theft, subject to the policy’s terms, limits and deductible. Certain categories of valuable property may have special limits, so tell your Sky-Agent® about jewelry, collectibles or other higher-value belongings.
Depending on the policy and circumstances, personal-property coverage may extend to covered belongings while they’re temporarily away from your residence. Coverage limits and exclusions can apply, so check the policy or ask your Sky-Agent® about your specific situation.
Generally, no. Unrelated roommates usually need their own Renters Insurance policies. A Renters policy typically protects the named insured and certain resident family members who qualify under the policy. Simply sharing a House, Condo, Apartment or Mobile Home with someone does not automatically make that person insured under your policy. If you live with an unrelated roommate, each roommate should generally have their own Renters Insurance policy to protect their belongings and provide their own personal liability coverage. There can be differences between insurance companies and policies, so tell your Sky-Agent® who lives in the home and we’ll help make sure everyone is looking at the appropriate coverage. Sharing the rent doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sharing the insurance.
If a covered loss makes your rental temporarily uninhabitable, Loss of Use / Additional Living Expense coverage can help with eligible costs such as temporary housing and certain increased living expenses while you’re unable to live there.
Replacement Cost generally looks at what it costs to replace covered belongings with new items of similar kind and quality, subject to policy terms and limits. Actual Cash Value generally takes age and depreciation into account. That difference can significantly affect what you receive after a covered loss.
Yes. Many insurance companies offer multi-policy discounts when eligible Auto and Renters policies are written together. But the biggest bundle discount doesn’t automatically mean the lowest total insurance cost or the SkyBlue Insurance • Renters Insurance Page Content • September 2026 best overall coverage. Don’t just bundle. Shop the bundle.™ Your Sky-Agent® can compare available options and help you look at the bigger picture.
Yes, renters of eligible mobile or manufactured homes may have Renters Insurance options available. The important distinction is whether you own the home or rent it. If you own the mobile/manufactured home, you’ll generally need coverage designed for the home itself. If you’re renting the home, a renters policy may be appropriate. Tell your Sky-Agent® what you rent. We’ll help you take it from there.
SkyBlue is licensed nationwide. Available insurance companies and products vary by state and individual circumstances, but a Sky-Agent® can help shop the Renters Insurance options available to you.
